Jadara University and University of Sydney Foster Collaborative Ties at Sydney Meeting

Sydney, Australia, October 1, 2023 — In a remarkable stride towards international academic collaboration, Jadara University, led by Vice President Professor Dr. Iman Al-Basheti, engaged in transformative discussions with the prestigious University of Sydney in Australia. Hosted by the renowned Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, currently ranked 20th globally, this productive meeting delved into diverse academic and scientific topics of mutual interest. These discussions aimed to propel future prospects for an enhanced partnership between the two esteemed institutions.


Representing the University of Sydney were Professor Dr. Andrew McLachlan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Professor Dr. Bandana Saini, a specialist in pharmaceutical practice. Additionally, a prominent researcher affiliated with the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, a world-leading center for respiratory and sleep research in Australia, was present. This institute holds recognition from the influential Times Higher Education newspaper as the foremost specialized research center for sleep and respiratory health worldwide.


The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to embark on joint research ventures in clinical pharmacy, therapeutics, and pharmaceutical practice. These collaborative projects will encompass critical areas such as sleep disorders, asthma, and respiratory diseases, thereby spotlighting Jadara University's expertise in respiratory care and intensive care in Jordan.


Moreover, both universities resolved to exchange knowledge and insights regarding pharmacy programs, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) initiatives, and Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences courses. They also explored the prospect of jointly supervising postgraduate students, as well as facilitating sponsored opportunities for Jadara University students to pursue their doctoral studies at the University of Sydney.


The culmination of this meeting paved the way for plans to organize a joint international conference in 2024. This conference will serve as a platform for discussions on pharmacy education and pharmaceutical practice across various pharmacy disciplines, encompassing both Jordan and the global landscape. During the discussions, Professor Dr. Al-Basheti, who holds an honorary professorship at the University of Sydney, presented Jadara University's strategic vision aimed at elevating its educational programs, with a particular emphasis on medical specializations, including pharmacy. Dr. Al-Basheti underlined that the outcomes of this meeting will play a pivotal role in enhancing pharmacy programs at Jadara University. These outcomes are anticipated to benefit both faculty and students by providing valuable insights and recommendations for further development, with the ultimate objective of ensuring excellence in pharmaceutical practice on a global scale.


Dr. Al-Basheti conveyed warm regards from the leadership of Jadara University, including Dr. Shukri Al-Marashdeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Acting President, Professor Dr. Habes Al-Zboun.
